Ell is an award nominated comic artist and illustrator who originally emerged from the North Sea. Now Edinburgh based, a lot of their work is inspired by folklore and the ocean - though they are also a big fan of death metal. Their favourite things to draw are horses, guitars and sad men.
Ell's comic Catharsis was published by Quindrie Press in 2023, and nominated for two Selkie Awards in 2024 - Best Short Comic and Up and Coming Talent.Ell was a mentor for the CHIP Collective's program MentorCHIPs in 2024, providing support and feedback to new comic creators.They have produced comics with the CHIP Collective and Oh Joy Sex Toy as well as being featured in Zoop's Comics are Dying in 2024 and Frisson Comics' 2021 Knock Knock Folk Horror Anthology.They have been invited to speak on panels at both Cymera Festival and Edinburgh Comic Arts Festival to discuss the nature of their work and the importance of folklore and Scottish stories.Ell is also co-organiser of Comic Cocoon, a monthly moderated discussion group for comic creators in Edinburgh.
